When was it written?
Drop a pin on the map, then set the year.

How to play. Each day brings ten passages from literature, philosophy, scripture, mysticism, wisdom literature, speeches, letters, science and law, all in English. Guess where each was written and in what year. Location and date are each worth up to 5,000 points. You get three free hints a day; each reveals the original language of one passage. Date scoring is more forgiving for older texts: missing by 50 years costs little in 1000 BC and a lot in 1900. Dates for ancient works are best scholarly estimates of composition, and places are where the text was written or first compiled; for speeches and sermons, where it was delivered. Where the place is disputed or unclear, the answer is an area, and any pin inside it scores the full 5,000; where the date is uncertain, the answer is a range of years, and any year inside it scores the full 5,000. Your streak counts days you play the daily game on the day itself, and the archive lets you play any day you missed.
